Crowned by the towering Andes and tucked between the Amazon and the Pacific, Peru offers a captivating mix of adventure, nature and history. Embedded in every active traveler’s Top Ten List is the ‘great city of the clouds,’ Machu Picchu. Our route takes us there from bustling Lima, to the cobblestone streets of Cusco, from ruin to ruin across the Sacred Valley, and by train and breathtaking footpath over the Inca Trail.
From the Rapids of the Urubamba to the mystical mountains of Machu Picchu, the Land of the Inca begs to be explored.




Stroll the cobblestone streets of Cusco, the Inca Empire’s capital and the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Western Hemisphere.
Hike the Inca Trail, a mystical mix of ruins,mountain scenery, lush cloud forest and rich subtropical jungle.
Bike off-road to the Inca site of Moray, and to the ancient salt pools and mines known as the ‘Salinas de Maras.’
Raft class II & III rapids of the Urubamba River through the Sacred Valley conquering the adrenaline inducing ‘train station’ and ‘slider’ rapids.
Horseback Ride  on a Peruvian Paso Fino horse.
Savor a plate of fine Peruvian cuisine and unwind in the comfort of the exquisite Hotel Rio Sagrado.

Nights 1 & 2:  Miraflores Park Hotel    
Set in one of Lima’s most fashionable areas, the Miraflores Park Hotel takes us straight to the heart of all that’s best about this great capital city. Renowned for its beautiful garden location beside the Pacific Ocean, it has breathtaking views out to sea. With colonial architecture, superb museums and shops within easy walking distance, we’ll be situated in a prime local.
Nights 3 & 8:  Hotel Monasterio
Right beside the lively Cuzco central square is Hotel Monasterio, a former monastery and national monument dating from 1592. This five-star museum hotel was once a 16th century monastery built on the foundations of an Incan palace. At an elevation of 11,024 feet, you’ll appreciate the spacious, oxygen-enriched rooms.
Nights 4 – 6: Sol Y Luna
A lovely addition to the Sacred Valley of the Inca, the Sol Y Luna hotel has bungalows surrounded by flower gardens. In a tranquil setting, you will find that sleep comes easy in this cozy hotel.
Night 7:  Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel
Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel‘s private 12-acre cloud forest inside the Machu Picchu Sanctuary offers a scattering of cottages, streams, gushing waterfalls, gardens and wild forest interspersed by stone pathways.

Meals
The hallmark of any Austin-Lehman vacation is the exceptional dining. Half the fun of an ALA vacation is the mouth-watering food! Jump-start each day with a delicious, high-energy breakfast. In the evening, it’s a 5-star restaurant, a campfire barbecue, a trip to a local hotspot or a candle-lit dinner in a private wine cellar.
This itinerary includes (8) breakfasts, (7) lunches and (7) dinners along with snacks and refreshments. Alcoholic beverages and related gratuities are not included in the trip price.

Day 6: Ollantaytambo, Urubamba River, whitewater rafting

Hiking – 1 to 2 mile city walks and ruins tours, and a 5-mile challenging hike on the Inca Trail (elevation gain of 2,000 feet).
Whitewater Rafting – class II – III rapids, no experience necessary.
Mountain Biking – up to 15 miles on dirt, moderately difficult.
Horseback Riding –  no experience necessary.
