tampa bay’s crown jewel, the tampa international gay and lesbian film festival, is back for the annual 11 days of film.
about tiglff
“each october tiglff provides a microburst of new story telling from around the world, right here in our own community. this candy box of moving stories pollinate our hearts and minds. we laugh. we cry. we get goose bumps together. the festival changes us and we change it. … for many of us [it] is an important part of what defines our quality of life in tampa bay.” –john thomas, tiglff board president
this year is tiglff’s 21st anniversary. it is produced by fof (friends of the festival), a nonprofit organization who started the festival in 1990 through the outreach of several local community-based organizations. fof’s mission is to showcase a selection of compelling film and video by, for or about the glbt community that entertains, enlightens and celebrates the festival audience.
the 11‐day run from october 7 through 17th features 37 film screening events, including three shorts programs and five major party events. those party events are the founders’ vip reception, business guild expo, taste of pride tampa, surge men’s party, and pure sugar women’s party. the film selections reflect the increasing number and higher quality of glbt films around the world. according to programming director margaret murray “this year’s crop of films showcases the true diversity of the lgbt filmmaking world. we have films that tackle thorny subjects, we have comedies, and we have art‐house films… . each and every one will take you to places you never imagined.”
among the filmmakers and actors scheduled to attend are: casper andreas, director of violet tendencies, jesse archer, actor in violet tendencies, rob williams, director of role/play, matthew montgomery and steve callahan, actors in role/play, daniel and erica beahm, leading ladies.
venues are tampa theater (which will show screenings all 11‐days) and muvico theater in downtown st. petersburg (which will screen films four nights, Monday, October 11th through Thursday, October 14th). single tickets are $9.50.
