Adam, you were missed! We hope to see you at October’s discussion group!
I ran across a title we might want to consider for the future: “Fellow Travelers” by Thomas Mallon. It’s another Washington story, set this time during the McCarthy era.

can’t wait to read it & meet
the book club meetings always seem to zip by in mere minutes

Discussion Questions for Gossip (please feel free to add more questions/discussion topics)
1. Is the title, Gossip, representative of the book? How so and why? How not and why?
2. In the first chapter, it’s insinuated that Nick thinks Nancy “sold out” by working in D.C. Did she? And how is Nancy any different than Nick?
3. How are Ralph and Peter the same or different regarding their relationship with Nick?
4. Why do Peter and Ralph seem to be much closer than Peter and Nick or Ralph and Nick?
5. What’s up with Nancy? She seems at wit’s edge one minute and master-of-the-universe the next.
6. Who’s the most honest person in the book? Why?
7. Which character best represents the thrust/theme of the book? Why? Examples?
8. Do you think the book is overly cynical regarding politics, understated, or just about right?
9. Did the plot seem plausible? Why? Why not? (Obviously, some parts may have seemed more plausible than others, which might be just as interesting to discuss.)
10. Was Ralph in love with Billy? When might he have been in love, and when might he not have been in love?
11. Was Billy really in love with Ralph?
12. What was with Billy? Was the character realistic? What did you think of him by the end of the story?
Hey fellow bibliovores,
Gay author CATFIGHT! Read the mutually disparaging interviews:
Gore Vidal: http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/the_way_we_live/article6854221.ece
vs. Edmund White: http://www.salon.com/books/int/2009/10/15/edmund_white_interview/
See you soon!
Havta ask…Is this a mostly Men’s book club?..
Hey Shay!
The men’s book club currently has one lovely female member, yet all are welcome to the Men’s Book Club. O&A for Women has their book club that caters exclusively to women. Come check it out, we’d love to have you attend.
If you get a chance watch Outrage on HBO it is a good companion piece to the book.
Hi all-
Looking forward to tonight’s discussion. Especially eager as to how everyone feels about the way the book ends….
