about the play
This fast-paced, hilarious comedy about Hollywood and homophobia has been described by The New York Times as “devastatingly funny …and with irresistible wit.” The show was an off- Broadway sensation and scored two Tony nods when it ascended to the Great White Way as the hit of the 2006 season.
The Little Dog Laughed gives the audience a biting look at the world of celebrity, along with trenchant satire about truth and illusion Hollywood style. The script casts a wicked spotlight on fame, deception, intolerance and hypocrisy …providing the audience with the down and dirty details of Tinseltown…all the while dishing it out in good fun and good theatre.
The story centers on a closeted film actor, Mitchell, who is a confused, hot-looking hunk about to win the role of the century if he can keep his sexuality under wraps. Next is Alex, the sweet, 20-something male prostitute who loves him. Add to this Ellen, Alex’s naïve girlfriend, and Dianne, Mitchell’s acerbic and unscrupulous movie agent who fears her rising star’s “slight recurring case of homosexuality” will derail his career and ruin her climb to power.
What will Mitchell do? He is the man women want…and whom men want to be. Will he escape from the glass closet of Hollywood, or find a way to lock it from the inside? Order your tickets now and find out.

Hi Robert! I saw the StageWorks outing and thought I would tell you about another show. M.A.D. Theatre of Tampa is doing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolo Dreamcoat July 31- August 16th @ the HCC Mainstage Theater in Ybor… nice and close to Streetcare Charlies for a “dinner and a show” kind of thing. Joseph and over half of the brothers in the show are gay… so, it’s a “family event”.
I know they have group discounts, but don’t know a lot about them… just offering a suggestion. The website is http://www.madtheatre.com
This sounds like fun, and FINALLY we are able to fit one of these activities into our schedule! I wonder if Chad Allen would consider making an appearance in this production?
Excellent! We look forward to you joining us….can you believe we’re taking over an entire theater??
Aren’t we usually the majority at the theaters anyway?!?
Right! Pretty exciting to think that O&A can fill a theater!
